{"id":709,"date":"2014-04-28T00:00:34","date_gmt":"2014-04-28T00:00:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/omexuk.hosting4.zenwebsolutions.com\/?p=59"},"modified":"2014-04-28T00:00:34","modified_gmt":"2014-04-28T00:00:34","slug":"foliar-nitrogen-on-oilseed-rape","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.omex.com\/uk\/foliar-nitrogen-on-oilseed-rape\/","title":{"rendered":"Foliar nitrogen on Oilseed Rape"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: right;\">28 April 2014<\/p>\n<div><strong>Nutritional Agronomy Note: Foliar nitrogen on Oilseed Rape \u2013 Get better results with Oilseed Extra<\/strong><\/div>\n<hr \/>\n<p><b>Foliar nitrogen on Oilseed Rape \u2013 Get better results with\u00a0Oilseed Extra<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The HGCA now recommend application of foliar nitrogen to all crops of oilseed rape, following a number of years of trials over different seasons.<\/p>\n<p>Oilseed rape is poor at taking up soil nutrients after flowering, at a time when nitrogen is important for filling the seed and extra nitrogen provided through the foliage leads to a yield increase greater than can be achieved by additional soil applications.<\/p>\n<p><b>Oilseed Extra, a complete foliar package for bigger yield benefits<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The HGCA report an average yield response of 0.2 t\/ha and other trials organisations report an average increase of 0.35 t\/ha, from the application of nitrogen alone.<\/p>\n<p><b>Oilseed Extra has been shown to increase yields by an average <\/b><b>0.61 t\/ha<\/b><b>, from all trials over the last 9 seasons, almost double the increase. That\u2019s worth about an extra \u00a3100\/ha after the cost of the product and application.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-39 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/omexuk.hosting4.zenwebsolutions.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/w178_4662574_webosr.jpg\" alt=\"w178_4662574_webosr\" width=\"178\" height=\"157\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>More than just nitrogen<\/b><\/p>\n<p>In addition to the levels of nitrogen provided by simple urea sprays, Oilseed Extra also contains sulphur, manganese, magnesium, copper, zinc and molybdenum plus a powerful biostimulant, all designed to boost crop growth during seed fill.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Maintains growth throughout seed fill, producing larger seed, higher yields<\/li>\n<li>Improved yield responses over straight foliar nitrogen<\/li>\n<li>Molybdenum inclusion minimises the oil reduction associated with straight foliar nitrogen application at lower application rates<\/li>\n<li>Evidence of reduced pod shatter from foliar urea in some trials<\/li>\n<li>Net benefit of over \u00a3100\/ha, based on average results over last 5 seasons<\/li>\n<li>Can be tank-mixed with late fungicide or aphicide applications<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Application and availability<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Oilseed Extra is applied after the end of flowering at 200 l\/ha plus 100 l\/ha water, through standard fan jets. The addition of water helps improve coverage on the crop and the uptake of the nutrients.
