Bridge Farm Group & OMEX

Here’s what one of the UK’s largest protected ornamental growers, Bridge Farm Group, had to say about using OMEX liquid fertiliser and crop nutrition while working with our dedicated team.

Working Towards Sustainable Ornamental Fertiliser

In line with our Greener Planet Commitment we’re providing protected ornamental growers with efficient crop nutrition and liquid fertilisers for protected ornamentals. Our R&D team are continuously testing and trialling our protected ornamental fertilisers to ensure they’re being applied in the most effective way, to improve nutrient use efficiency.

Improved efficiency improves the sustainability of your growing operation, and in turn the financial sustainability of the business. We’re constantly reviewing new sustainable products and practices to ensure our grower customers have agronomically viable processes in place for the future.

This includes our investment into improving the efficiencies of peat-free growing media with our revolutionary product, Catalyst.

The Benefits of Liquid Fertiliser Nutrition for Protected Ornamentals

Liquid fertiliser nutrition offers an array of benefits to ornamental growers:

  • Liquid nutrition is instantly available to the crop
  • Rapid uptake by the plant
  • Crop nutrition improves protected ornamental plant health
  • Compatible with protected ornamental fertigation systems

Nutrients in a liquid form are easily absorbed by the crop, consistently demonstrating positive results within research and development and customer produce.

At OMEX we consistently test and review our product range to ensure protected ornamental growers are utilising the most effective forms of crop nutrition at the most efficient rates.

Speak to us about protected ornamental fertiliser and crop nutrition here.

“With OMEX we can give that first-grade product, every time!”

We’re a trusted partner within the horticultural industry, providing science-led solutions to our customers across the horticultural sector. We form a key part of protected ornamental growers teams advising them on the most effective, agronomic and sustainable crop nutrition programmes to achieve yield and quality goals. It’s all down to the OMEX guys coming in to see us and getting into the crops. It’s a relationship you can depend on.

SAP Analysis in Protected Ornamentals

SAP Analysis is vital for sustainably growing soft fruit. SAP analysis analyses 17 live nutrient parameters within the growing crop, This helps growers to make the most efficient and agronomic decisions on applying fertilisers and nutrition to the crop.

The report utilises an easy-to-read chart highlighting nutrient deficiencies or antagonisms as well as indicating where nutrition is optimised. The reports are then interpreted with OMEX agronomist comments to help the protected ornamental grower make the most effective, agronomically and financially viable decisions for the crop.

Peat Free Protected Ornamental Crops

Protected ornamental growers are making the move towards peat free growing media, with the 2030 ban on peat fast approaching. However peat free growing media has been showed to present growers a number of issued such as:

  • Delayed Root Growth
  • Increased Water Usage
  • Increased Fertiliser Usage
  • Nutrient Lock Up (Mainly N)
  • Reduced Shelf Life

OMEX understand the issues facing protected ornamental growers and have developed an innovative solution to “help peat free act more like peat” with the introduction of Catalyst.

Catalyst is the latest edition to the OMEX biostimulant and quality improvement range. OMEX Catalyst is THE substance that increases the rate of biological interactions (roots + rhizosphere microbiology) within less biologically active environments.

Learn More About Catalyst

Increase Biological Interaction Rate With Catalyst.

Catalyst is the latest edition to the OMEX biostimulant and quality improvement range. OMEX Catalyst is THE substance that increases the rate of biological interactions (roots + rhizosphere microbiology) within less biologically active environments.

Catalyst is a unique concentrated formulation of Humic Acids and Seaweeds. It’s applied directly to growing media either with fertigation nutrients or as a stand along application. Catalyst acts as a biological primer for peat free growing media that plants have difficulty rooting in, by providing a range of organic acids beneficial to root growth and beneficial microbial colonisation.

Catalyst Trials Results: Catalyst in trials has consistently produced excellent results:

56% increased nutrient uptake
32% increased root mass
Uniform cropping

Catalyst Trial

This Catalyst trial looked at root weight. The total root weight for the samples with Catalyst added were heavier than the samples without.

This is demonstrating that the product is beneficial to root growth

Pot Bedding Fertiliser and Crop Nutrition

Pot Bedding requires a balanced programme of nutrition. The nutritional programme should focus on rooting, plant health and quality of the pot bedding crop. The below feed programme highlights pot bedding fertiliser and crop nutrition requirements across some key growth stages.

Pot Bedding Feed Programme Download

Pot Bedding Plug/Rooting and Transplant Growth Stage: During this growth stage rooting is vital. Early root establishment will aid the crop to uptake nutrients and meet its growth and quality requirements. During this stage, growers can utilise:

Kelpak

Kelpak is a kelp concentrate that improves pot bedding root growth and establishment applied at 2L/ha or 2ml/L water.

O-Phyte

O-Phyte is biostimulant based on phosphite that stimulates pot bedding plant growth and improves the uptake and systemic movement of nutrient cations within the plant. Applied at 2L/ha or 2ml/L water it helps to keep root strength and root health at optimum levels

O-Mix Soluble Powder

O-Mix Soluble Powder is crucial for feeding the pot bedding crop with the required ratios of NPK fertiliser. O-Mix grade 11-42-11 +TE should be applied at the plug/rooted cutting stage to supply the crop with a balanced ratio of nitrogen and potassium but an increased ratio of phosphorus to aid rooting. O-Mix grade 20-8-20+TE or 18-18-18+TE should be applied at the transplant stage to provided a boosted level of nitrogen and potassium. Trace elements are included within the O-Mix soluble powder range to enhance pot bedding nutrient levels and aid a balanced early start to the crop.

Pot Bedding Vegetative and Bud/Flowering Growth Stage.

During this stage of pot bedding growth it’s important to supply the crop with nutrients for increased growth, plant health and development. If you’re unsure what you need to get the best results, contact our expert team who are on hand to offer their advice!

Bio 20 will provide the pot bedding crop with macro and micronutrients combined with naturally occurring kelp biostimulant to stimulate growth and boost a wide range of nutrient levels. Bio 20 can be applied to pot bedding crops at 1-2L/ha or 1-2ml/L water, the lower rate should be used on sensitive crops and for early growth stages.

Zynergy is a unique combination of copper, zinc and sulphur formulated to optimise nutrient uptake by the plant. It’s been evidenced to promote plant health, quality and yield. Zynergy can be applied to pot bedding at 0.25L/ha or 0.25ml/L water.

CalMax Ultra can be applied via fertigation to pot bedding plants. It should be used in fast growing situations to strengthen plant cells and also to enhance flowers. The readily available calcium nutrition within CalMax Ultra can be applied at 0.5-1ml/L water.
