Agronomist, Scott Baker, gives a Nutrition Update now Spring has sprung.
In recent weeks we've seen longer days, and brighter skies, and for most, the recent fine weather has allowed spring nitrogen dressings to commence. Across the UK sprayers have been out in force, delivering liquid nitrogen fertiliser, and preparing crops for Spring.
Whilst this has been gratefully received by many crops that have yet again seen excess winter rainfall, we need to assist in maximising Nitrogen Use Efficiency (NUE) of the fertiliser applied, making sure the crop fully utilises the supply available to it. To understand how the crop is performing, regular SAP testing can highlight deficiencies of micro nutritional elements that have a direct impact on nitrogen utilisation, such as Manganese.
Manganese is a micronutrient that is essential for many plant functions, particularly in enzyme systems. Manganese is required for photosynthesis, and change of leaf colour is often the first visual symptom of deficiency.
SAP Testing, will identify crop nutrition deficiencies, including Manganese and 16 other parameters. A simple 5 step process that assesses the plant's available nutrition, and is interpreted by a dedicated Crop Nutrition Agronomist.
