SAE AMS Compliance

The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) have researched and developed a range of standards to cover consumable materials used within the aviation industry which are stated as Aerospace Material Specification (AMS) standards.

Key SAE AMS Compliance Standards

  • SAE AMS 1435 – Specification for liquid de-icers, which outlines the requirements for liquid anti-icing and de-icing compounds used in aerospace facilities. This specification confirms that our liquid de-icers are safe for application around aircraft and airport infrastructure. SAE AMS 1435 compliance also ensures that OMEX liquid de-icers are free from corrosive agents, safeguarding aircraft components, including cadmium-plated parts, steel, cable seals, and carbon brakes, from potential damage during and after de-icing.
  • SAE AMS 1431 – Specification for de-icing and anti-icing compounds used in granular form on airport runways and taxiways. This certification ensures that our de-icers are safe for use on surfaces frequented by aircraft, offering effective ice control without risking corrosion to airport infrastructure or equipment. SAE AMS 1431 compliance also guarantees compatibility with aviation industry safety protocols, providing assurance that the de-icer will not damage or deteriorate runway surfaces, aircraft components, or sensitive materials.

Testing to SAE AMS Standards

OMEX de-icers ensures that our products are suitable for use on runways and taxiways by complying to the periodic testing requirements set out by the SAE AMS Standards. The products must pass a stringent set of tests in order to be awarded the AMS standard and must adhere to periodic re-testing to maintain the certification.

With the products being used in sensitive and high risk areas, it is imperative that they will not corrode, interfere or react with the materials they come into contact with which is why the intensive testing procedure covers the de-icers effect on aircraft metals, sandwich corrosion, immersion corrosion, hydrogen embrittlement, stress resistance and surface degradation resistance.

OMEX Commitment to SAE AMS Standards

OMEX are pleased to confirm that our liquid de-icing products have achieved the SAE AMS 1435 standard since inception in April 1995 and our solid de-icing products have met the SAE AMS 1431 standard since 2001 when OMEX de-icers incorporated solid de-icing products to our portfolio. Compliance with SAE AMS standards affirms our commitment to performance, corrosion protection, and environmental responsibility, making OMEX a trusted choice for sensitive and regulated settings.
